My job is active but has not received many or any candidates

When a job turns active, we start sending it to our network of job boards. Have you received no candidates, or fewer than you expected? There may be a problem with the job.

These are the most common issues we see:

  1. Your job is less than 24 hours old. After a job turns active, it can take up to 24 hours for the first candidate to apply. The job boards check with us at different times, so it can be slow at first.

  2. Your job is over three months old. Most of our job board partners filter out or remove jobs over three months old. We suggest you edit the job you have, or reopen it if it is closed, rather than posting it again as a new job; a new post is only for a genuinely new role. Take the time to update the job text. Some candidates may have seen the old post already.

  3. You are posting the same job somewhere else. Betterteam already sends your jobs to many job boards. You do not need to post the job yourself on any of the major job boards. If a job board charges a fee to post, it is usually fine to post there too. It will not cause duplicate problems.

  4. The location is wrong. This is a common problem. People often use a neighborhood or area name instead of the official city or suburb. For example, use Chicago, not Magnificent Mile.

  5. There are several job titles in one post. Post one job per job title. Say you are staffing a new restaurant. Post one job for a chef, one for a line cook and one for a server. A single post titled "Hiring Chef/Line Cook/Server" is often ignored by job boards.

  6. The job text needs work. A great job post attracts great candidates. But it takes time to write one.

  7. The salary is below market. If you add a salary range, it is shown prominently. If the range is far below market, very few candidates will apply.

  8. No salary in the job post. In a competitive market, leaving out the salary range can sharply cut the number of candidates. If you pay a fair or above-market salary, add it to the job post. In some places the job boards won't show a job until it lists the pay; we tell you when a board holds a job for that.

If you think your role suffers from one of these, email hello@betterteam.com so we can investigate, or go ahead and edit the job yourself.
