Betterteam sends a handful of automated emails when something happens with your sign-in or your account's security. This article covers each one — what it looks like, why you received it, and what to do next.
The emails covered here:
Sign in to Betterteam
Verify your email
Reset your password
Unrecognized Device Detected
Stale Account Detected
Complete code challenge
If you ever want to double-check that an email is really from us, see How to verify communications from Betterteam.
Sign in to Betterteam
The "Sign in to Betterteam" email contains a one-time code you use to sign in without a password. We send it when you choose Email me a sign-in code on the sign-in screen.
What it looks like
Why you got it
You clicked Email me a sign-in code on the sign-in screen at app.betterteam.com/login. The email contains a 6-digit code you enter on the next screen to finish signing in — no password required.
What to do
Enter the 6-digit code on the sign-in screen. The code expires after 10 minutes — if it doesn't work, go back to the sign-in screen and request a new one.
If you didn't request to sign in
You can safely ignore the email. Nothing changes on your account unless the code is entered on the sign-in screen. The most common reason this happens is someone typing their email address by mistake.
If you keep receiving these emails and you're not the one trying to sign in, reach out to us through the chat in your Betterteam dashboard or at hello@betterteam.com.
Verify your email
The "Verify your email" email contains a one-time code you enter to confirm your email address when signing up for Betterteam.
What it looks like
Why you got it
You're signing up for a new Betterteam account, and we want to confirm you actually own the email address you entered. The email contains a 6-digit code you enter on the signup screen to continue.
What to do
Go back to the open browser window where you're signing up and enter the 6-digit code. The code expires after 10 minutes — if it doesn't work, request a new one from the signup screen.
If you can't find the email, see Email verification issues.
If you didn't sign up for Betterteam
You can safely ignore the email. Nothing changes unless someone enters the code in their open browser window. The most common reason this happens is someone typing their email address by mistake.
If you keep receiving these emails and you're not the one signing up, reach out to us through the chat or at hello@betterteam.com.
Reset your password
The "Reset your password" email contains a link you click to set a new password. We send it when someone uses the Forgot your password? option on the sign-in screen.
What it looks like
Why you got it
Someone (hopefully you) clicked Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen at app.betterteam.com/login. The email contains a button you click to set a new password.
What to do
Click Reset password in the email to choose a new one. The link expires after 15 minutes — if it doesn't work, request a new one from the sign-in screen.
If you didn't request a password reset
You can safely ignore the email. Your password won't change unless someone clicks the link and sets a new one. The most common reason this happens is someone typing their email address by mistake.
If you keep receiving these emails and you're not the one requesting them, reach out to us through the chat in your Betterteam dashboard or at hello@betterteam.com.
Unrecognized Device Detected
We send an "Unrecognized Device Detected" email when we notice a sign-in to your account from a device or browser we haven't seen before. It's a heads-up so you can confirm it was you — not a sign that anything is wrong.
What it looks like
Why you got it
Someone signed in to your account from a device or browser we haven't seen on the account before. This usually has a simple explanation:
You're using a new laptop, phone, or browser.
You're signing in from a private or incognito window.
You cleared your cookies, so we don't recognize the browser anymore.
You're using a different network or a VPN.
What to do
If it was you, no action needed — you can ignore the email.
If you don't recognize the sign-in
If the sign-in wasn't you:
Change your password right away using Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen.
Reach out to us through the chat in your Betterteam dashboard or at hello@betterteam.com so we can take a closer look.
Stale Account Detected
We send a "Stale Account Detected" email when an account that hasn't been used in a while has a new sign-in attempt. After about 30 days of no activity, we send a heads-up with the IP address and location of the sign-in so you can confirm it was you.
What it looks like
Why you got it
Your account hadn't been signed into for at least 30 days, and we just saw a sign-in attempt. That's normal if you're returning to Betterteam after a break — we send the heads-up to confirm it was really you, not because anything is wrong with the account.
What to do
If it was you, no action needed — this email is informational. You'll be signed in as usual.
If you weren't trying to sign in
The email shows the IP address and location of the sign-in attempt. If neither looks like you:
Change your password using Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen.
Reach out to us through the chat in your Betterteam dashboard or at hello@betterteam.com so we can take a closer look.
Complete code challenge
We send a "Complete code challenge" email when a sign-in attempt looks a little unusual to our automated security checks. It contains a code you'll be asked to enter as one extra step before you're signed in. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with your account — we're just being cautious on your behalf.
What it looks like
Why you got it
Our automated checks decided this sign-in attempt was worth verifying with one extra step. Common reasons include:
You're signing in from a new location, network, or device.
There have been a number of failed attempts on the account recently.
You're signing in at an unusual time.
What to do
Enter the code on the sign-in screen to finish signing in. The code is for you only — never share it with anyone, including Betterteam staff.
If you weren't trying to sign in
Don't share the code with anyone, and change your password using Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen. Then reach out to us through the chat or at hello@betterteam.com.
For more on sign-in options (including signing in with Google or with a password), see How to Sign Up and Sign In to Betterteam.
